A sarcastic guide to God of War: Ascension, the prequel that experiments with combat and leans into mythic spectacle.
Ascension is the prequel where Kratos has not fully burned down the Greek world yet. It also experiments with combat systems, which means it feels a little different from the main trilogy.

The combat is more reactive and combo-driven, with elemental weapons and different pacing. It rewards timing and aggression but can feel strange if you are used to classic muscle memory.

Story-wise, it fills in context about Kratos’s service to the gods. It is not essential, but it is a surprisingly satisfying detour if you want the full Greek arc.
